"Do The Timewarp!"
This meme is ancient. orz For those of you who're curious about my artistic roots, well, here's where I came from!
Note: I'm Asian. I draw myself like a generic Caucasianesque cartoon character because oh my god what is facial variety. OTL
- TLD;R UP AHEAD -
12-15yo:
12-year-old me was introduced to art and the world wide web by her fellow 6th-graders. As the pic implies, we (and our Mary Sues, oh childhood) were weaboo before 'weaboo' was even a term. orz
I couldn't draw at all, but I enjoyed scribbling my classmates' fan-characters with my ancient 90's mouse. I knew not this 'shame' you speak of.
In my 14th year, I came out as a big fat queer and drew nothing but Rumiko Takahashi-esque femslash in my notebooks. Manslash grew on me around here too, though I only dabbled in it textually. Ah, teenage self-discovery.
/fond headshake
16-19:
After a well-deserved beatdown regarding Mary Sues, 16-year-old me swapped her old crew for some more sophisticated pals. I spent these years aping styles that didn't fit me in hopes of impressing my new crowd. Bad idea. It didn't help me grow as a cartoonist or as a human being. Don't give into peer pressure, kiddos!
The missing 19th year:
Despairing of my age, I barrelled headlong into a 'creative competence crisis'. I went from CGing a few pictures per week to producing a doodle once every few months. I'd even contemplated throwing in the towel. Quite a waste of time!
20 and onwards:
Finally decided to make the jump from 'casual artist' to 'full-blown hobbyist'. I'm a different person now than I was in my teens! If I regret anything, it's that I wasted good time letting others dictate my creative path for me.
I'm glad y'all figured to join me on my quest to make up for lost time!
